2023 VIVO RIO PRO RESULTS

Stop number eight on the WSL Championship Tour the Vivo Rio Pro finished in unruly conditions in front of a massive crowd as usual at Praia de Itaúna in Saquarema, Brazil.

Yago Dora defeated Ethan Ewing to win the men’s final and claim his first-ever CT title, while Caitlin Simmers took out Tyler Wright for her second win of the season. The victories move them both back into the top five on the WSL rankings and in contention for the WSL Finals at Lower Trestles.

Lining up against Yago Dora in the men’s final was Ethan Ewing and even though Ewing got off to a good start given the conditions, his chances of winning came to an end once Dora boosted the biggest frontside air rotation of the event for a perfect 10 and the win.

Afterward, Yago Dora told the WSL broadcast “It hasn’t even sunk in yet, it’s amazing. This week was something special, best week of my life I’m gonna say. Even on the flat days, I had so much fun everything was special here even when the surf was not good. I just had a feeling something special was about to happen, and it did”

In the women’s event, Caitlin Simmers continues to impress taking out five-time World Champion Carissa Moore in the semis and two-time World Champion Tyler Wright in the final for her second CT win of the season. To say that the young American is having an awesome rookie season would be an understatement.

Afterward, Simmers told the WSL broadcast ”I’m feeling really good. You make a lot of sacrifices to do this and I have a lot of respect for everyone who does it because it’s kind of a lot never being home, but it’s pretty rewarding when it happens. I don’t know I’m just really happy right now.”
